DAX on the up

GERMANY’S benchmark DAX Index climbed, paced by DaimlerChrysler after Citigroup recommended investors buy shares in the carmaker.

Volkswagen and Bayerische Motorenwerke gained as China’s passenger car sales rose.

The DAX added 34.38, or 0.5%, to 6911.11, bringing its weekly gain to 0.4%.
