Viridian welcomes move by Dempsey

IRISH energy business Viridian Group has welcomed an initiative by Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Noel Dempsey to secure further independent power generation in the Irish market.

It is understood that Mr Dempsey has written to the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) urging the Regulator, Tom Reeves, to invite tenders for a new mid merit power station.

Viridian spokesperson Robin Greer said: “Viridian is committed to playing a full role in the Irish market and any initiative to further competition is welcome.”
