Moll chosen for theatre festival

NEWMARKET Drama Group, which has won many acting, production and setting awards on the amateur drama circuit since being revived 12 years ago, has chosen John B Keane’s hilarious comedy Moll as its festival production this year.

It will stage the play in Newmarket Community Centre, tonight, tomorrow night and on Sunday night and again on the following weekend, January 12, 13, and 14 before going on the festival trail.

The play is set behind the doors of a presbytery, between 1971 and 1975, and follows the fortunes of Moll, a dominant priests’ housekeeper, who is a dedicated but somewhat intimidating woman.

Most of the talented cast and stage crew of this production are multi-award winning actors.

Eileen Fitzgerald plays Moll and Philip Linehan plays the Canon.

John O’Sullivan plays Fr. Brest. Michael Guerin appears as Fr Loran and Helena Fitzpatrick as Miss Andover. A special guest actor will play Ulick and the bishop is played by Michael O’Halloran, who also directs the play.

Stage management is in the capable hands of Mary O’Sullivan, while the set design and construction is by Con Guiney. Paul O’Neill will again light the show.

Rehearsals have been ongoing for 12 weeks.
