Teagasc concerned at soiled-water rules

THE Teagasc Authority yesterday instructed acting director Tom Kirley to seek an urgent meeting with Tom Moran, secretary general, Department of Agriculture and Food, to outline its concerns about the current interpretation of the nitrates directive in relation to soiled water.

“Specifically, the authority do not share the interpretation of the statutory instrument in relation to soiled water stored in slatted tanks from collecting yards used in the milking process,” it said, explaining that Teagasc research scientists will provide material to support this position which will be presented to the secretary general.
