Smith condemns abuse in €120m mushroom industry

ANY alleged mistreatment of workers in the country’s €120 million mushroom industry was condemned yesterday by Food Minister Brendan Smith.

Speaking in Monaghan, he said there was a very high dependency on migrant labour and this brought into focus issues surrounding the rights of workers.

“Over recent times there has been much media attention drawn to the alleged mistreatment of workers in the sector.
