Meat group gives guarded welcome for package

THE IBEC group which represents the country’s major beef and lamb processing companies, Meat Industry Ireland, has welcomed the Government’s investment package for the sector.

But it is concerned the €50 million package aimed at generating an overall investment of €100-€120m will be insufficient to achieve the full extent of the required transformation.

“Further support will be needed and we hope that Government will respond to this as investment projects come online,” it said.
