Discrimination of PAYE workers

THE Irish Association of Pension Funds (IAPF) said Government pensions’ policy discriminates against most PAYE workers and this is hampering pensions coverage in Ireland.

The IAPF has made recommendations in its pre-Budget 2006 submission, which it says will address inequalities which particularly hurt the PAYE sector. Joe Byrne, chairman, IAPF said that PAYE earners who are not in PRSAs are discriminated against because they have no choice but to buy an expensive annuity which dies with the holder.
