Milk plant closure causes job losses

CONNACHT GOLD MILK plant is to close its doors in January with the loss of 16 jobs.

However, the company’s office at the same location, dealing with sales and distribution, will remain open.

The milk volume handled in Ballina will transfer to the company’s other milk processing plant in Sligo.

Chief executive, of Connacht Gold, Aoran Forde said that like milk plants across the country, it is necessary to centralise liquid milk production to make it more cost effective.
