Campaign launched as egg sales leap
A promotional campaign, endorsed by the Irish Heart Foundation, was launched with the theme that healthy adults can eat seven eggs a week as part of a balanced diet.
Bord Bia said retail sales were estimated at €53 million, the equivalent of €248 million eggs. Some 90% of households buy eggs every two to three weeks on average, with the majority of sales taking place in Dublin followed by Munster. However, Ireland still has one of the lowest consumption rates of eggs.
