Brazilian beef does not meet standards, claims IFA

EUROPEAN Union Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection Markos Kyprianou, who is on a four-day visit to Brazil, has been urged by the Irish Farmers Association to tell the authorities there that beef exports which fail to meet EU standards are not acceptable.

The European Commission said Mr Kyprianou’s visit, which continues until tomorrow, is to reiteratethe EU’s determinationto protect consumers with regard to food safety and animal health.

The commission said he will use the visit to underline the duty Brazilian authorities have in ensuring products destined for Europe are fully compliant with EU rules.
