Baked bean firm wins recycling prize

BAKED bean cans in the 1970s weighed nearly twice as much as they do today. This was one of the reasons why Batchelors won the Repak Member of Year Award for large companies at last night’s Repak Recycling Awards.

Technology company Symantec won an award for packaging prevention, having saving the equivalent of 10,000 trees by changing from physical delivery of the product to delivery over the web.

Bulmers also won an award for savings of over €1 million in material costs by removing the equivalent of 13m glass bottles from the marketplace in 2005.
