MINISTER for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin, paid tribute to UCC yesterday when he opened the second Irish Family Business Conference at the college.

It has taken a number of steps, including the setting up of the Diploma in Family Business Management in 2003 and in May 2004 UCC launched the John C Kelleher Family Business Centre to enhance the package of UCC-led initiatives aimed at developing the family business sector in this region and throughout Ireland.

Apart from the minister and Bob Geldof, two prominent Irish businessmen, Liam Griffin, the former manger of the successful 1996 Wexford Hurling team, and Senator Feargal Quinn, who sold his 22 store supermarket chain last year, shared their experience of running family firms.
