AER LINGUS directors have purchased their first shares in the newly privatised carrier.

Chairman John Sharman spent almost €30,000 buying 13,636 shares in the airline, while chief executive Dermot Mannion bought just under 9,100 shares.

Danuta Gray, the O2 chief executive who joined the Aer Lingus board earlier this year, purchased nearly €50,000 worth of shares.
