Smith opens Bord Bia stand in Russia

THERE is huge potential for growth in Irish food and drink exports to Russia, according to Food Minister Brendan Smith, who opens the Bord Bia stand at Moscow World Food Fair today.

Mr Smith said Irish food and drink exports to Russia are expected to pass €100 million this year. Meat products alone are set to be worth €65m. The other main food exports are seafood and infant formula. The value of alcohol exports is estimated at €7m.

Mr Smith said Russia is a thriving economy with a population of more than 140 million and one of the fastest growing retail markets in the world.
