Revised animal health plans urged

ANIMAL health regulations, to come into effect on January 1, are counter-productive and will have major implications for farmers and the animal health industry, the Animal and Plant Health Association (APHA) conference was told.

Delegates were informed the regulations prohibit the advertising of animal health remedies and require all such remedies to be sold on prescription.

APHA director Brendan Barnes said he was confident the animal health industry can work with the Department of Agriculture to put in place practical and workable regulations giving full traceability to consumers.
