IDIA warns energy price hike puts strain on farms

THE dairy industry has warned that proposals for energy price increases would put it under intolerable strain.

Irish Dairy Industries Association (IDIA), the IBEC group that represents the sector, said dairy processing is extremely energy intensive due to the heat required.

IDIA director Michael Barry said energy ranks alongside labour and raw materials as the biggest input costs for the industry.
