CHAMBERS Ireland’s Air Transport Users’ Council (ATUC) warned Dublin Airport Authority must plan for additional capacity of up to 50 million passengers in the medium term if Dublin develops as a hub of global importance.

Chambers issues airport warning

Chambers Ireland’s ATUC spokesperson Seán Murphy said: “Passenger numbers at Dublin airport are projected to grow at a rapid rate in the coming years. We need to consider in broad terms the development required up to a capacity of 50 million passengers in the future.”

“It is critical that we begin to plan without delay. Terminal Two will meet demand in the near term; we need to be ready to cope with growth thereafter. We don’t want a situation with Terminal Two similar to that which we witnessed with the Luas, where it was full on day one.”
