Ireland joins Asian Development Bank

IRELAND has become the 66th international member of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) — the organisation aimed at improving the welfare of poorest people in Asia and the south Pacific region.

Finance Minister Brian Cowen made the announcement when addressing the World Council of Credit Unions annual conference at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel.

The ADB approved loans valued at $5.25 billion (€4.1 billion), last year.
