Bord na Móna set to buy €70m electricity station

The State-owned peat company is understood to have made an offer to buy the Edenderry electricity station for around €70 million. Bord na Móna already supplies the station, owned by German utility giant Eon, with around €1 million tonnes of peat a year.

If the takeover is finalised it would be the first major shift from its traditional peat and horticulture businesses. It is already involved in the wind power and waste treatment sectors, but these contribute just €30m to the company’s annual turnover.
