THE ISEQ Index closed down despite significant gains in Greencore and CRH.

Market falls by almost 40 points

The exchange fell 39.89 points to 7,519.47.

AIB and Bank of Ireland gave up 45c and 20c respectively; Anglo-Irish dropped 32c to €11.65 while Irish Life & Permanent finished 20c weaker at €18.10.

In construction CRH jumped 40c to €26.65 after issuing an upbeat trading statement. Grafton Group added 6c to €10.10 with Kingspan shedding 39c to €13.25.

Elsewhere Greencore shares rallied after confirmation of a block sell off of approximately 42 million shares. The share price advanced 37c to €4.07. C&C climbed 6c to €6.94 after it confirmed it has entered an agreement to sell Tayto Crisps Limited for €62.3m cash. Meanwhile Ryanair climbed 13c to €7.30 with United Drug adding 4c to €3.38.
