CONFIRMATION last week that Bioverda is to build a €30 million bio-diesel plant, probably in Co Cork, will give some solace to farmers increasingly under pressure from CAP reform and the impending World Trade Organisation (WTO) reforms that are due to be fully operational by 2015.

With more than 3,000 tillage farmers now minus their beet income, the prospect of Bioverda shaking up the bio-energy market in Ireland is to be welcomed.
