BRITISH farmers will seek compensation for growers unable to grow sugar beet due to the planned closure of two refineries in north and central England, a senior grower said on Tuesday.

“We will be in discussions with Associated British Foods’ (ABF) unit British Sugar on compensation,” John Hoyles, sugar board chairman of the National Farmers’ Union, told Reuters, describing the decision as “totally commercial”.
