THE Irish government is preparing to launch a tendering process in the next few weeks for the construction of a €500 million electricity interconnector, linking Ireland with Wales.

The aim of the project is to improve security of power supply and boost competition in the Irish electricity market.

It’s believed a consortium comprising the renewable energy firm Airtricity, the Northern Ireland-based energy firm Viridian, the Cork-based SWS Group and Treasury Holdings is among the interested parties.
