THE story of how a small rural cheese factory grew into a major player on world dairy markets is recorded in a new book to be launched in Charleville, Co Cork, on Monday night.

Golden Vale Remembered — 1948-2001, written by Peter Somers and Michael McGrath, tells how the co-op was developed, recalls the personalities who shaped it and recounts the contribution it has made to the economic and social life of the community.

The 368-page book, illustrated with a large selection of photographs, will be launched at Charleville Credit Union by Kerry O’Loughlin.
