ASA calls for agricultural research boost

ADDITIONAL Government expenditure on science, technology and innovation provides a real opportunity to revitalise research in primary agricultural production, according to the Agricultural Science Association (ASA).

ASA president James Fitzgerald said that over the past decade agricultural research in Ireland has not matched the needs of the industry.

“The level of scientific expertise is significantly behind that of our main competitors. If farming is to be put in a strong competitive position, an injection of new resources is urgent,” he said.
