Fewer farmers at sales affects price

Marts: Cattle prices were back €20 — €40/head at yesterday’s mart sales — losing most of the recovery earlier in the week — as demand eased with fewer farmers present at the sales.

There was a smaller sale than last week at Bandon Mart.

The heavy bullocks ranged €190 — €330 over €/kg, lighter store bullocks making €170 — €300 over and Friesians selling at €70 — €190 over. A lot of six Charolais 557 kgs sold for €880, six Herefords 506 kgs made €740, three Angus 400 kgs sold for €600, and six Friesians 289 kgs made €425. The best of the continental beef heifers made up to €230 over while Angus and Herefords ranged €110 — €180 over.
