Low volumes dominate trading

The Dublin Exchange had a quiet day as the US and British markets were closed. The ISEQ Index closed up 27.14 points at 7678.95.

Low volumes dominate trading

AIB shed 9c to €18.81 while rival Bank of Ireland jumped 22c on modest trading volumes to €14.33. Anglo Irish gained ground up 26c to €12.51 and Irish life & Permanent also closed higher, up 35c to €19.15.

The construction sector saw advances for Kingspan and Grafton, both strengthening 14c and 9c. Giant CRH closed up 18c on low volumes at €26.68.

Elsewhere, IAWS fell 25c to €14.10, Ryanair lost 6c to €6.78 and Elan dropped 35c to €14.00, all stocks suffering from low volumes. Waterford Wedgwood closed up at .051 as press reports over the weekend suggested a possible rights-issue to raise funds for restructuring may be announced with final tear results on June 12.
