Organic walk series gets underway

TEAGASC, in association with the Department of Agriculture and Food, is organising a series of 15 organic farm walks over the summer.

Organic walk series gets underway

The first of the walks takes place on Stuart Kingston’s farm, at Forrest House, Farnanes, Co Cork, tonight at 7pm. He farms 60 hectares (150 acres), producing cereals and running a weanling to beef enterprise on the grassland area.

Less than 1% of agricultural land in Ireland is farmed organically, but Teagasc says that additional Rural Environment Protection Scheme (REPS) payments, combined with premium prices, make it a feasible option for farmers.
