Nortel warns on slowdown in sales

Retreating from an upbeat forecast it made just last month, Nortel Networks on Thursday warned that third-quarter sales will fall below its second quarter and 2004 revenue growth will lag behind the sector.

Nortel gave no reason for the weaker sales, but the news rattled investors.
