Cantor Fitzgerald damages reduced

Money brokers Cantor Fitzgerald International yesterday won an €169,190 reduction in a €1,322,586 damages award to a former employee who claimed he was subjected to a “culture of bullying and abuse”.

And a further €913,664 of the sum won by 39-year-old Steven Horkulak, at London’s High Court in 2003, will go back for redetermination by the trial judge, Mr Justice Newman.

Mr Horkulak claimed that Cantor’s president, Lee Amaitis, screamed obscenities at him on a regular basis for six months up to his constructive dismissal in June 2000. He gave evidence his 53-year-old boss threatened to break him into two and rip his head off.
