Decentralisation ‘will hit capital’

Decentralisation plans will take €1.5 billion of spending a year out of the country’s capital, according to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.

Decentralisation ‘will hit capital’

Chamber president David Pierce said his members are not opposed to the move by civil servants out of the capital but said it will have negative impacts for the city if it does not happen in a structured way.

“The impact of the removal of 10,000 high-value jobs will, in our estimation, take a €1.5bn spend from the city and the impact of this must be addressed if Dublin is to remain an economic engine for Ireland as a whole and for its 1.1 million residents. This is equivalent to moving the IFSC and all the jobs that go with it out of Dublin.”
