Student Design Awards launched

IRISH design students were given the opportunity to create their own inventions at the National College of Art & Design yesterday when Dyson senior design engineer Aled James launched the 2006 Dyson Student Design Award.

During a two-hour workshop, one group came up with a cardboard prototype for the Mobile Ventilation Ball. Students were challenged to design anything they liked, using only the materials available within the classroom.

The winning group came up with the concept of a Mobile Ventilation Ball. The robotic ball would be powered by a motor that would enable it to move independently around a room during hot summer days, circulating and ventilating the air.
