Plan to legalise medicines’ import

Republican and Democratic US senators have introduced legislation that would make it legal for Americans to import prescription drugs from licensed pharmacies in Canada and other countries.

The proposal would allow Americans to buy medicines from Canada within 90 days after becoming law.

Purchases from the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Switzerland could begin in a year.
