Merck creates 80 jobs for graduates

The announcement coincided with the launch of its new subsidiary, Merck Sharp & Dohme Ireland (Human Health), which will conduct the clinical research, regulatory affairs and marketing support for Merck in Europe and will also manage sales and marketing for the Irish market.

The subsidiary already employs 40 people in sales and marketing, which are spread throughout the country, and plans are to increase overall employment to 120 within the next five years. MSD Ireland (Human Health) provides market leading products in the areas of arthritis, asthma, osteoporosis, heart disease and HIV/AIDS as well as a number of specialist hospital products.

MSD Ireland (Human Health) managing director Søren Tulstrup said that through their British subsidiary they had been providing their market-leading products to patients for over 25 years and were currently number five in the market.

“We believe that with a dedicated Irish subsidiary managed by an experienced management team, we will be even better positioned to partner with Irish physicians and authorities to ensure that patients are optimally informed about, and have access to, our products.

“Our new subsidiary will also play a pivotal role in relation to our global clinical research, regulatory and promotional activities. With a strong portfolio of marketed products that has made MSD one of the fastest-growing companies in the industry, an exciting pipeline of new products, and now a fully-fledged, dedicated Irish subsidiary I am convinced MSD Ireland (Human Health) will become one of the leading companies in the industry,” said Mr Tulstrup.

Recruitment for the 80 positions is already underway. Positions in sales management, marketing support, external affairs, human resources, accounting and administration have already been filled, but opportunities still exist in product management, sales, clinical research, medical support and regulatory affairs. People interested in working for MSD Ireland are advised to visit the company website on www.msd.ie for further information and to apply on-line.
