SCIENCE Foundation Ireland (SFI) has invested a record €122 million in funding scientific and engineering research in third level academic institutions in Ireland this year.

Funding has increased steadily from SFI’s inception in 2001, with over €520m now committed to over 780 projects.

This year, SFI invested over €4m in five leading young ICT and biotechnology researchers under its President of Ireland Young Researcher Award programme.

Also, a €16.5m award was made to the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute at Dublin City University.
