10 new members welcomed by ECB

The governing council of the European Central Bank has welcomed the 10 countries joining the EU today.

ECB president Jean-Claude Trichet said: “On this historic occasion, we very warmly welcome the new member States to the European Union and to the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

“As from tomorrow, we will all be mutually enriched by sharing our long-standing European inheritance and experiences, current and new members alike.”
