RETAIL group ADM Londis has called on Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin to keep the Groceries Order in place.

The order, which bans the practice of below-cost selling, is currently being reviewed and has attracted criticism from consumer groups.

Joint chief executive Stephen O’Riordan said: “ADM Londis wishes to see the development of a workable national consumer strategy but removing the Groceries Order is entirely the wrong way to go about doing it.

“The only group that will benefit from such a move will be already massive retail sector multiples, who will force the closure of hundreds of local retailers throughout the country,” he added.
