Intel Corp to settle patent dispute

Intel Corp, the world’s largest chipmaker, said it will pay Intergraph Corp $225 million to settle a patent-infringement dispute over Intel’s Itanium chip.

Intel will pay Intergraph $125m by April 5 and $25m during each of the next four quarters Intel said in a statement.

The settlement ends a two-year legal battle in which Intergraph claimed Intel’s chips infringed its patents. Intergraph will receive a net $203m from the settlement and agreed not to sue any Intel customers for products that include a combination of Intel microprocessors, Intel chipsets and Intel motherboards.
