LOCAL authorities who rip-off households for disposing of waste should be named and shamed in yearly league tables, a conference was told yesterday.

Irish Rural Link, the national lobby group for rural development groups, claimed there is a growing feeling that consumers are not getting value for money.

Seamus Boland, chief executive, said it is vital that such a comprehensive league table of waste charges be published so that people around the country can begin to see whether they are being ripped off or not.
