Merger and acquisition activity involving Irish companies has remained flat in the third quarter.

Ion Equity said at €1.6bn the value of deals done has been static year on year. The number of individual deals in the quarter fell from 56 to 43, the survey reveals.

Although the value of mergers and acquisitions in the third quarter was 40% lower than in the previous quarter Ion Equity director Joe Devine said that the summer period is traditionally a quiet period for merger and acquisition activity.
