Mixed day for financials

THE ISEQ closed in positive territory yesterday, rising 29.02 points from Friday's tally to 4334.09 points.

The financial sector had a mixed day. Allied Irish Bank Plc added 25c to €14.08 as its competitors ended the day in red. Irish Life & Permanent Plc dived 45c to €11.45, Bank of Ireland Plc lost 14c to €10.46, Anglo Irish Bank Plc fell 10c to €6.58 and IFG closed 4c down to 50c. First Active Plc remained unchanged at €5.20.

The ISEQ Index of Financial shares closed 21.93 points lower to 8561.38.

Significant climbers included Waterford Wedgewood Plc and Datalex Plc. Waterford Wedgewood added 3c to 53c after the Central Statistics Office reported that retail sales climbed 6 percent for September despite a slowing economy. Datalex gained 6c to 48c.

Other noteworthy climbers included CRH Plc up 42c to €13.57, Ryanair Plc 15c higher to €8.20 and IAWS 10c stronger to €7.92.
