Arkle a winner again ... at auction

A bust of Arkle, one of Ireland’s most famous racehorses, fetched almost 10 times its estimate price at an auction of memorabilia.

The collection of 20 lots honouring Arkle - three times a Cheltenham Gold Cup winner - sold for £51,811 at the auction at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire.

The lots centred on the horse’s time with indomitable jockey Pat Taafe and were expected to fetch just £20,000.
