Service aims to improve company standards

A NEW service to help companies become better corporate citizens was launched in Dublin yesterday.

Service aims to improve company standards

The London-based GoodCorporation said it had teamed up with the consulting arm of leading Dublin law firm A&L Goodbody to help Irish firms adopt international best practice and do business in an ethical way that suits employees, suppliers, customers and shareholders.

GoodCorporation founder and director Leo Martin said the company was active in 23 countries and had decided to formally target the Irish market after working with the local arms of international clients such as Ladbrokes and Total.

A&L Goodbody Consulting has been accredited by the company to advise businesses here on adopting its standards and identify gaps in their policies and procedures.

Mr Martin said GoodCorporation was the first organisation of its kind to operate in Ireland and had set out a framework of policies that allow companies to measure their behaviour against desired goals.

Client companies would need to set up formal training and appraisal processes for employees, complaint handling and data protection policies for customers and agree to treat suppliers professionally by paying them on time and protecting any intellectual property they used.

“The standard gives organisations a clear and simple way to review and demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility and we expect this to bring real benefits to Irish companies,” said Mr Martin. “Those that consistently demonstrate their commitment to corporate social responsibility can now access a global standard that will allow employees, customers and investors to recognise that commitment.”

A&L Goodbody Consulting senior economist Grainne Pyne said many organisations already had corporate social responsibility programmes but they would now be able to have their practices assessed formally and benchmarked against the best in the world. “Critically, it will also allow Irish businesses to communicate their ethical commitments to stakeholders,” she said.
