Tesco deal with phone company

RETAIL giant Tesco has signed a deal with phone company Energis to develop a new plan to allow Tesco’s Irish customers to contact their local stores using cheaper 1890 phone numbers.

Tesco’s existing numbers will be replaced by a new seven-digit number, preceded by the code 1890. Calls will be charged at local call rates if made from a fixed line.

Tesco Ireland procurement manager Joe Grennan said: “We are constantly looking at ways in which we can make our business more efficient and improve our service to customers. Our work with Energis Communications to create the Lo-call 1890 numbering service has enabled us to bring down the cost of calls for our customers.”
