Market finishes week on poor note

THE Dublin market finished the week on a negative note with the ISEQ index falling 12.06 points to 5041.24. The main European markets declined with the exception of the FTSE driven higher by strength in Vodafone.

Once again the financials were weaker. Bank of Ireland fell 9c to €10.99, Irish Life & Permanent dropped 8c to €13.62 and Allied Irish Bank closed 7c lighter at €13.00.

Anglo Irish Bank bucked the poor trend, gaining 9c to €13.09. Pharmaceutical stock Elan Corporation advanced 12c to €6.97 as the firm announced that it has formally ended its recovery plan.
