Bank of Ireland was criticised by the Consumer Council yesterday for not treating customers in the North as well as in the Republic.

The bank was urged to remove charges from personal account holders in the North following its announcement of free banking for some customers in the south.

The Competition Commission is investigating the treatment of customers by the big four banks in the North.
