Jesuits buildings attract several offers over €4m

THE JESUITS have received a number of offers which match or exceed the €4 million asking price for their church and residence in Limerick, according to well placed sources.

The date for offers closed over a week ago.

Fr Dermot Murray SJ has been sent to Limerick to oversee the sale of the Sacred Heart Church and adjoining residence in The Crescent.

Des O’Malley, joint selling agent of Sherry Fitzgerald O’Malley said yesterday: “We have a number of offers in. It is just up to our client to confirm who they are going with. We just have to get the all clear from them.”

It is believed that John O’Halloran of Limerick Tutorial Centre is one of the main bidders.

Mr O’Halloran already owns the old Crescent College, which adjoins the church and residence and houses his highly successful tutorial centre.

The Jesuits have decided to close the church and residence due to falling vocation numbers.

Past pupils of the Jesuits at The Crescent include Richard Harris, Terry Wogan and former PD leader Des O’Malley.
