Dual format Indo is unsustainable, say analysts

DUAL format production of the Irish Independent, in both broadsheet and tabloid sizes, is regarded as economically unsustainable by industry experts.

However, with the tabloid delivering an estimated 12% increase in weekday circulation, Independent News & Media is not expected to decide on one format any time soon.

The tabloid is a pet project of INM ’s chief executive Tony O’Reilly. He is often extremely irritated when stories published in the broadsheet do not appear in the tabloid edition and he is not slow to let people know of his displeasure.
