SPIRALLING consumer prices and poor infrastructure are threatening the Irish economy, a new report has found.

The annual review of the National Competitiveness Council (NCC), a Government agency, found that although the rate of growth of consumer prices stabilised over the past year, they are the second highest in Europe behind Denmark.

The council warned that if economic prosperity is to continue, prices must be brought into line.
