Amendment ‘unfair’ claim ICAI

Dublin: The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICAI) has described an amendment introduced by the Minister for Finance to the Finance Bill at Committee Stage as ‘mean-spirited and unfair’.

The ICAI claimed the amendment, which was not contained in the original Finance Bill when published, would penalise unintentional mistakes in tax returns.

ICAI tax spokesman Kieran Ryan called on the Minister for Finance to undo the change to avoid undermining co-operation between the Revenue Commissioners and tax practitioners.
